"A Word from Le Directeur"

After directing shows for the last 10 years you might think that I knew everything about directing that there is to know. Well forget that right now! The truth is that I feel like I am learning again from scratch. All of the previous shows I have been connected with have involved directing children and young adults. This is the first time I have directed adults. I think that the old adage "never work with children or animals", both of which I have done, should be changed to never work with adults. Oh whom am I kidding, I'm loving every moment of it. I have an excellent, youthful cast full of energy that are totally committed to making this the best Riverside panto ever. All of the scenes that we have worked on thus far are working well and are very funny with lots of strong characters. We have some familiar characters and new ones. In fact we wrote every character as a lead role, giving thought to what they were thinking and what they would bring to the panto. When we wrote the panto we wanted to try and make it as audience friendly as we could so we have included lots of slapstick and interaction with the audience. The story line is pretty faithful to the original fairytale. We have also put lots of music in and this includes some well-known Disney classics, e.g. Beauty & The Beast, as well as some less well-known tracks from the likes of Hercules and Mulan. Shania Twain, Queen and S Club 7 have also helped us out. It was very important to me that new and younger members of the cast had the chance to shine so for several members of the cast this is their first lead role within Riverside. To sum up this is going to be a wonderful, vibrant Panto and will be well worth the meagre price we charge for the tickets. So I thank you in advance for coming along. Gavin Davy
