Reviews
The Riverside Players present The Passion of Dracula by Bob Hall and David Richmond at Eynsford Village Hall, from Thursday to Saturday, 14, 15, 16 October. Performances start at 7.45pm. For ticket prices and bookings, phone the Box Office on 01322 861001.
A forbidding lunatic asylum overlooking the remains of Carfax Abbey is the setting for this melodrama.
Dr Seward has noticed 'strange goings-on'in the district and his beautiful niece Mina has become so pale that he has summoned his old friend, Professor van Helsing. Add to this the handsome young reporter Jonathan Harker, a brave and self sacrificing local squire, Lord Godalming, the starchy yet passionate Helga van Zandt and the excitable lunatic Renfield, and you have a thrilling array of characters against whom the final arrival, the Lord of the Undead himself, must do battle for body - and soul.
This deliciously tongue-in-cheek version of the classic Bram Stoker tale is not to be missed! Talented Riversider Phil Newton, who played the lead part of Tevye in the Players'acclaimed open-air production of Fiddler on the Roof last summer, is this time in the director's chair, while our most recent director John Harris (Cabaret) treads the boards alongside Riverside stalwarts Susie Fenlon and Ben Newton
In true thespian tradition, Ben is following in his father's footsteps - Phil played the part of Renfield himself back in 1987. They are joined by Lauren Gray, Kevin Monk and Graham Steele, newcomer Chris Cole and, making a welcome return, David Adams. The infamous title role is taken by drama teacher Gavin Davey, most recently seen as the white-faced EmCee in Cabaret.
